The blaugelb Insulation Panel EPS is a high-density expanded polystyrene insulation board developed for construction details where thermal insulation must be combined with high pressure resistance, dimensional stability and good fixing performance.
It is particularly suitable around windows, doors and façades, as well as for thermally separating steel, concrete and other construction elements that would otherwise create significant thermal bridges.
The board can also be used as an additional build-up layer with TRIOTHERM+ Door Upstands where wider door or sliding-door frame profiles require a greater support width.
With a thermal conductivity λ10 of 0.0403 W/(m·K), very low water absorption and high compressive strength, the board provides a durable solution for thermally demanding details in new-build and renovation projects.
The panels are easy to cut and machine on site and are available in 20, 30, 35 and 40 mm thicknesses, each measuring 600 x 1,200 mm.
The blaugelb Insulation Panel EPS is designed for areas where conventional insulation materials may not provide sufficient pressure resistance, dimensional stability or fixing strength.
Typical applications include:
Where a door, entrance-door or lift-and-slide frame is wider than the standard TRIOTHERM+ Door Upstand, the Insulation Panel EPS can be cut into strips and used as an additional build-up layer to increase the available support width.
This allows wider frame profiles to be supported across a broader surface while maintaining a continuous thermally insulating construction at the threshold.
The insulation board is used in combination with the load-bearing TRIOTHERM+ Door Upstand and should be securely bonded or fixed in accordance with the required construction detail.
This application is different from using a thin insulation panel on its own to bridge a cavity: the TRIOTHERM+ Door Upstand provides the primary structural support, while the insulation board is used to extend the support width to suit the frame geometry.
The 20–40 mm Insulation Panels are not intended to provide load-bearing support across a cavity beneath windows or doors when used on their own.
For structural bridging of cavities and similar load-bearing applications, a material thickness of at least 60 mm is recommended. For these applications, use the MULTIPRO Board in the appropriate thickness.
The panels can be cut and shaped easily using common woodworking tools, including a hand saw, jigsaw, mitre saw or circular / skill saw.
For clean and accurate cuts, use a suitable coarse-cut blade appropriate for the selected tool.
The high-density EPS material is easy to machine and produces relatively little dust during processing.
Depending on the construction detail and substrate, the insulation panels can be mechanically fixed or bonded.
The manufacturer specifically identifies Power FIX hybrid polymer adhesive as a suitable option for bonding the insulation panels, including applications such as thermal separation on steel girders.
The fixing or bonding method must always be selected to suit the substrate, intended loads and specific construction detail.
The panels are compatible with common construction materials but must not come into contact with solvents, solvent-containing materials or other substances that are incompatible with polystyrene.
